Outside of the metropolis to the east and north are heavily forested mountain ranges that make a fantastic escape from the city for a scenic drive, picnic or bushwalking expedition. The Dandenongs are close enough to be on the suburban rail line, and have been a most liked location for Melbournians to take a quiet walk or enjoy a devonshire tea for generations. Somewhat further out the Yarra Ranges National Park helps to protect majestic mountain ash woods, patches of cool temperate rainforest and clear pile streams that give Melbournians some of the best tasting drinking water in the world. The Sherbrooke Falls & Silvan Resorvoir also are accompanied by some amazing walking trails for you to explore.
There exists more great scenery in Kinglake Domestic Park and local stores including Marysville, Noojee and Toolangi Black Range Condition Forests. There is also a push to unite the reserves in a Great Forest State Park to preserve them forever from logging to enjoy with quiet amazement by future generations.
