Cardinia is Melbourne’s second major reservoir, and can deliver water to many areas of Melbourne if needed. It receives water from Silvan Reservoir, as well as the Victorian Desalination Flower (when functioning).
Cardinia Reservoir Recreation area is a superb place for a family group day away. The open parklands, picnic and barbecue areas and indigenous bushland of Cardinia Reservoir Area are teaming with indigenous flora and animals.
Have a picnic within the trees or watch the Eastern Gray Kangaroos roaming at night, or basking in sunlight over the kangaroo viewing path. Enjoy breathtaking views of the playground from the countless lookouts and vantage details or go for a walk over the dam wall.
The dam at Cardinia Reservoir is a rolled rockfill and earthfill embankment, and was completed in 1973.
